This book is overrated. I’m not 100% sure who the authors intended audience is. In one paragraph she explains a detailed leg treatment using track jargon and the next paragraph explains the basics. There’s useful information in here if your not opposed to being talked down to and seemingly talked out of the daunting task of re training a precious Thoroughbred, specifically about finding useful information on how your horse may have been brought up. There’s some decent information on track life and how the horses are conditioned before sales. The pictures are a little sloppy in relation to their captions. I found “New Track, New Life” by Kimberly Godwin Clark has better organization and is more to the point, but that one will also assume the reason you picked up the book is to get a Thoroughbred on the cheap and then discard them the moment you run into resistance.If you want good books on horse behavior and laying strong foundations, buy Cherry Hill. She writes without assuming her readers are morons. Excellent book with lots of detail that would appeal to any horse owner. The author describes how to manage and train an OTTB, with excellent tips for any experienced horse owner. I found the section on the horse's perspective to be especially enlightening, since I have little experience with racetrack training methods. The detail provided in the longing section was also extremely interesting to me. It caused me to spend an hour with my local trainer to develop my skills in that area. This is a great book for any horse owner who has considered buying a horse, regardless of origin.
